After getting two or three loads of spam this week, I’ve decided to scale back a bit further, here. From now on, there will be no option to add comments to things here. Contrary to what you may assume, this is not done for some anti-social reason. In fact, it is the opposite. I would rather have long discussions of things. I would also rather have more justification to this site than the paltry, measly amount of writing I put here. But until I can do that, I’m going to shut down the commenting portal.

I use a Mac. I think this is a great idea, personally. But there are times that I feel the lack of having had to wade through the garbage of Windows. Talking to the IT person at my work is one of those times. I can’t really match the understanding she has of WHY the new scanner in the computer lab doesn’t work with the Dell machines.

All I can say is that the scanner works, without installing anything, – with my laptop.

Mac users that read more than one Mac website will understand this Catch-22. It’s sometimes harder to learn about the computer’s processes because the Mac OS has a lot better front-ends and gives a more basic (or, beginner) feel to everything.

Today, however, I was able to show-off. Jamie pointed me to this clearing house site for watching TV shows and movies. At work we were discussing bandwidth problems caused by students’ downloading movies. Of course the school blocks GNUtella and Torrent ports. But there are many sites (particularly overseas) that push content over regular http. So I showed this site.

Of course, while it is basically for watching movies, I showed off how Safari has the built-in ability to download these programs. Again, if you have downloaded things from Youtube, you are familiar with this, and there are many little programs that allow you to do so. But Safari’s built-in Activity Monitor is one example of the Mac allowing the user to (easily) see some geeky depth.
